Cumulative awards

Junior Music Experience entrants are awarded, at each evaluation, from one to five points according to how well they play and read music. By re-entering subsequent evaluations, they can accumulate additional points and earn one of the following awards. Please note — current awards might be slightly different from those shown in the photos.

Applause award. JME participants who earn 15 points are awarded a silver “eighth note” trophy.

Bravo award. A gold “eighth note” trophy is awarded to participants who accumulate 30 points.

Recipients of the following awards must persevere with piano lessons and JME participation for more than four years, truly a commendable effort.

Celebration award. Students who earn 45 points are presented with a silver “loving cup” trophy.

Ovation award. Given to even more persistent students who accumulate 60 points, this award is a gold “loving cup” trophy.

Encore award. Participants who have stayed with piano lessons and JME long enough to earn 75 points earn a large silver trophy.

Recipients of JME’s last cumulative award have taken piano lessons and participated in JME evaluations for at least nine years. This is a remarkable accomplishment, showing true devotion to music.

Finale award. Presented to only a few JME participants — those who accumulate 90 points — this award is a very special, large “loving cup” trophy.

Performance awards

JME also rewards participants who play exceptionally well at an evaluation. Each judge is given the option of designating an unusually fine performer for the Special Achievement medal. Special Merit trophies are presented to students who receive a Special Achievement rating for the fourth time. And a student who receives a Special Achievement rating for the seventh time is awarded the Outstanding Performer award.

Directors’ Award

The JME Directors, Lenore Wilkinson and Linda Bergholz, occasionally give a special award to someone who has made an unusually significant contribution to JME or to a participant who has reached an unusually high achievement level. For more information go here.
